CAMP DETAILS
Helpers: For those who are coming as helpers, we welcome you with open arms! There will be time set aside on Friday evening to train you how to help your buddies. You will be fully supported all weekend by your cabin leader, the camp committee and an on-site nurse. We cannot stress enough how much we value and need our helpers.
During this one weekend, many lives will be changed – but it cannot be done without you. You will be the difference to this camp!
We do ask that first-time helpers complete a police check form to protect our more vulnerable campers.
For those with a disability, you will be paired with a buddy and have their support for the weekend.
Children and Teenagers: This camp is for people of ALL ages, and therefore children with physical disabilities are more than welcome! We will be running a children’s programme during the weekend if required. Please note that we will carefully select buddies who will work with children. There will be late nights, with an afternoon sleep on the Saturday. You are welcome to come as a family, and we ask that you please call or text Viv Riddell on (021) 294 0320 to discuss this.
Speaker: Vanessa Creamer is well known to Elevate and CFFD (previously Chairperson of CFFD Auckland and now on the Elevate Christian Disability Trust Board). Vanessa has worked extensively in the disability community. Vanessa is hearing impaired and is assisted by her hearing dog Rogan. Vanessa and Rogan also take an active part in Toastmasters.
Vanessa graduated from Carey Bible college in 2013 with a Bachelor of Applied Theology. Vanessa also took part in the leadership training from Be. Accessible and has been a coach in the Be. Welcome programme.
We are looking forward to having Vanessa as our camp speaker and her insights on Hearing from God.
Who we are: Christian Fellowship for Disabled (CFFD) is one of five ministries under the umbrella of Elevate Christian Disability Trust (Previously Christian Ministries with Disabled Trust). Our aim as a ministry is Equip, Educate and Evangelise. We do this through our camp, regular meetings (picnics, dinners etc.) and seminars in Churches. Elevate publishes a magazine called ‘The Encourager’ quarterly, and also runs a free drop in centre in Onehunga for three days a week during the school term. For more information please call the office on (09) 636 4763 or see www.elevatecdt.org.nz.
