God in Every Season

God in Every Season
Reflection on Acts 1:1–11

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses…” – Acts 1:8 (NIV)

Life moves in seasons. Some feel like the warmth of summer—bright, joyful, and full of momentum. It’s easy to find clarity, energy, and purpose. Others feel more like winter—quiet, uncertain, or even painful. It’s harder to see what’s ahead, and easy to wonder if God is even working.

It was this journey of navigating the changing seasons of life that inspired us to create “God in Every Season,” a devotional series that explores how God meets us exactly where we are: in joy, in uncertainty, and even in stillness.

If I’m honest, I usually want to stay in the easy, sunny seasons and skip the harder ones altogether. Who wouldn’t? But as I’ve watched the seasons shift this year: in both the weather and my own life. I’ve come to recognize something deeper and profound: seasons change, but God doesn’t. His presence isn’t dependent on our circumstances. He is unchanging. He is faithful. And He walks with us through every season whether we feel His presence clearly or not.

We see this clearly in Acts 1:1–11. The disciples are caught in a moment of huge transition. Jesus had risen from the dead and spent time with them, something they never could have imagined. And now, He was preparing to return to heaven. These were the same men who had followed Him for years. They had built their lives around His presence. And now? Jesus was leaving with the work seemingly unfinished.

Imagine how they must have felt: a mix of awe, grief, and confusion. Their leader, teacher, and friend was departing. What were they supposed to do next? How could they possibly move forward without Him?

But instead of giving them a strategic plan or clear answers, Jesus gives them a simple instruction: “Wait.”

Wait for the Holy Spirit.

Wait for what God is going to do next.

Wait—and trust.

That word “wait” can be difficult to sit with. Personally, it challenges me. I like to plan, I want to know what’s coming up next. But waiting? Waiting requires surrender. It asks me to let go of control and trust that God is still working, even when I can’t see it.

This passage in Acts reminds us that waiting with God is a time of preparation where our faith is tested, challenged, and strengthened. Just as the disciples had to learn how to trust without physically seeing Jesus, we too are to walk by faith in our own times of uncertainty. Their calling wasn’t delayed in the waiting it was being prepared. And so is ours.

Lately, I’ve been in a waiting season of my own. Some days feel hopeful; others bring more questions than answers. It’s tempting to rush ahead or try to figure it all out on my own. But like the disciples in Acts, I’ve found that God often speaks in the waiting. In the stillness, I hear God reminding me: “I’m still here. I haven’t forgotten you. Trust Me.”

Maybe you’re in a season like that right now. Maybe you’re standing between what was and what’s next, with more uncertainty than answers. If so, may you be encouraged that you are not alone. The same God who led the disciples is with you now. He hasn’t changed. His promises are still true. His Spirit is still near. And He will give you what you need, right on time.

Just like the disciples, we’ve been given a promise for the presence and power of the Holy Spirit. And that promise is for every season, not just the easy ones. Especially in the uncertain seasons, God meets us there and gently reminds us: You don’t have to have it all figured out. I’m already at work.

Take heart. Keep praying. Keep listening. Keep trusting.
The best is still to come.

Reflection Questions:

  • Where in your life do you feel like you’re in a season of waiting?
  • What might God be challenging or growing in you during this time?
  • How can you practice trust while you wait?

Prayer:

God, thank You that You are with me in every season. When life feels uncertain or I’m asked to wait, help me to trust in Your timing. Fill me with Your Spirit. Grow my faith in the quiet moments. Teach me to rest in the truth that You are still working, even when I can’t see it. I surrender this season to You and trust your guidance. In Jesus name, Amen.
