What is Disability Awareness Sunday?
Disability Awareness Sunday is the third Sunday in June each year. It is a day where Churches are invited to dedicate their service to an important message:
Christian communities need to be places for people with disabilities to grow in their faith, have opportunities to lead and to contribute.
What can my Church do to celebrate Disability Awareness Sunday?
- Churches often choose to have a speaker with a disability share a message with their congregation.
- Or a Church may choose to play a video resource by Elevate during their service.
- Other Churches may prefer to perform a drama or recital that carries the message of Disability Awareness Sunday.
How can I learn more year-round?
Disability Awareness Sunday is a great start for Churches to reflect upon the attitudes, structures, and communication styles that may be barriers for people with disabilities.
