Being Connected to God – Part 2

By Ruth Beale

In our modern age some say that we don’t need God, that we can do it okay on our own and we don’t feel that we need a connection to God at all. We have become so self-sufficient that some people think we have no need of God and certainly don’t be connected to Him.

Or we might say that we don’t have any connection with God as He is a being somewhere up in the sky. Or we consider God as a God of judgement, always wanting to punish us for our wrongdoings.

God does live above the heavens and He can’t look upon sin because He is a holy and just God. Therefore, He does need to punish sin.

Although, He is also a loving God who cares deeply about us and wants to have a personal relationship with us. That is by us having a personal relationship with Him.

It is well documented that people who are drowning or have impending doom where their life hangs on by a thread. Then they call out to God even if they don’t believe in Him to save them.

So why would this be? Back in the Garden of Eden when God walked and talked with Adam and Eve He had a huge connection with them. But then sin came into the world and broke that relationship between God and man. It wasn’t God that broke the relationship, it was mankind, us. However, God still wants to remain connected to us and for us to have a personal relationship with him. He longs for us to commune with him through praying to him and He wants to speak to us through His Word the Bible. The way we can do this is by reading it.

You know one day we will stand before God if we like it or not. Our status in life won’t make a difference, the colour of our skin or if we have a disability or not won’t make any difference when we stand before God either as our saviour or our judge.

Philippians 2:10-11

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

I know which position I would rather have. To stand before God and thank him for sending Jesus to be my saviour and being connected to Him by have a personal relationship with Him.

This is why God sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, the separation of the connection with God way back in the Garden of Eden, to bring back into a right relationship with God and be more that connected but to be called sons and daughters of the living God. How good is that?

So in conclusion I want to ask you. Do you have a personal relationship with God? Have you asked Him to be Lord of your life? Probably the best known verses in the Bible are

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved.

The choice is yours, the Bible makes it quite clear how we can be connected to God.

I pray that this is what you have done today.

Amen
